#Diskurs 5

Die Macht der Einladung und die Ambivalenz des Generösen
Lecture by Beatrice von Bismarck (art historian and curator, Professor of Art History and Visual Studies, Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig)
The event took place in the frame of the exhibition
Luca Vitone. Imperium on October 16, 2014 at Neuer Berliner Kunstverein.
In German language

In her lecture accompanying the exhibition Imperium by Luca Vitone at Neuer Berliner Kunstverein, Beatrice von Bismarck assumes that each exhibition produces a situation of “hospitality”, where invitations are given, people and objects behave as guests and, by making a variety of offers, an atmosphere of hospitality is created. She closely looks at the political moments of such situations, on the hierarchies, dependencies and exclusions that are part of the gestures of welcoming and generosity.

The series
#Diskurs monthly presents n.b.k. events that were held in the frame of exhibitions at Neuer Berliner Kunstverein. Lectures, symposia, and artist talks, as well as concerts and performances regularly take place within the series „n.b.k. Diskurs“, inviting visitors to participate actively. Artists whose works are exhibited, guests of our residency program, and speakers develop outreach formats in cooperation with n.b.k., that can make different artistic and curatorial approaches and thematic issues productive. The n.b.k. conceives its discourse program as a conversation between the institution, the public, and members, from which ideas for the ongoing institutional work and its content grows. The complete „n.b.k. Diskurs“ archive can be viewed free of charge during the opening hours at the Video-Forum.
